RECOGNITION AND AWARDS - JULY 10, 2013

INAUGURATION: Former President Jack and Assistant District Governor Jose Avelar kicked off the meeting by inviting President Sue to the podium for her inauguration whereupon they presented her with our club charter, her presidential Rotary pin and – most important of all – the Orinda Rotary Skunk (a dubious honor, indeed!).

‘Round and ‘round she goes….President Sue launched her meeting by explaining how recognitions will henceforth be determined by the Rotary Wheel of (Mis)Fortune.  While the wheel has been used in the past, Sue has resuscitated the wheel with a few new twists.  Now, if you land on the Rotary logo, you will have the privilege of contributing $100 to the club. In descending order, you may also land on “Pay $80” or “Pay $60” circles.  But the odds are you are more likely to land on one of the colored circles ($10, $20, $30, $40, or $50). Remember, only those celebrating birthdays will be subject to spinning the wheel.   Anniversaries and Years of Service recognitons  will be subject to $20 and $10 contributions, respectively. 

BIRTHDAYS: Bob Peeke had the honor of being first up to try his hand at the Wheel.  In celebration of his 84^th birthday, Bob landed on red -- $40.  Thanks, Bob!

ANNIVERSARIES: Cindy Girgis met her husband on a blind date at the Vintage House and is celebrating 32 years of matrimony with Magdy –congrats, Cindy!

Marshall Johnson met  lovely wife Susan while playing softball and has experienced 17 years of wedded bliss.

Fred Nielsen attended a SIRS meeting and was smitten by Bobbie.  They are celebrating their “Wooden Anniversary” – 5 years..sounds a bit risqué to me!

Tony Sloan and wife Margret have been together 53 years. Now that’s staying power!
