Our own Laurie & Rudy Reich will tell us about their fascinating trip to China. They will take us on a journey to explore the rich history of the Silk Road in this country. The Silk Road was an ancient network of trade routes connecting the Orient with the Occident. In April Rudy and Laurie flew to Beijing as a jumping off point to visit five of China’s Silk Road Cities: Xi’an, Kashgar, Urumqi, Turpan and Dunhuang. They learned about a civilization that goes back to 3000 BC.
The Reichs traveled by plane, coach and high speed electric train crossing over stark deserts ringed by snow capped mountain ranges to visit these cities that blend the modern with the ancient. Highlights of the trip included the Terra Cotta Warriors, the mosques of Xi’an and Kashgar, the Kashgar Bulaksu livestock market, the Tarim mummies, the archeological site of Qocho, the Singing Dunes and the Mogao Caves.
