President Sue reminded us that the next TGIF Fellowship Night is Friday, August 16 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the lovely home of Jose and Marcela Avelar, 2 Lisa Lane, Moraga.  Bring a bottle, an appetizer or dessert and share some food, fun and fellowship!  September's TGIF will be at Dick and Betty Burkhalter's.

Sue read a lovely thank you letter from Teacher of the Year, Theresa Long, who was very appreciative of Rotary's support of Orinda schools.

Tickets for "Dancing with the Cars" on September 20th are now on sale -- you should have received the e-mail invitation and a link to the website where you can purchase tickets. Consider buying a table if you want reserved seats! A table enables you to get a group together for bidding on the wonderful auction items that will be offered up by our own Art Roth! If you are interested in reserving a table you can make checks payable to Orinda Rotary. Contact Barbara Bontemps for more info.

President Sue also reminded us about the District 5160 Annual Conference, which will be held in Chico, CA, from October 18-20. The conference is a great way to learn about all the programs and initiatives in which Rotarians are involved, plus have a great time! This year's meeting will be held at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds in Chico and will feature a golf tournment for early arrivals on Thursday, October 17; a fishing tournament on Friday the 18th; and a fabulous concert by country star Lacy J Dalton on Saturday evening, October 19. In addition, Rotarians will have an opportunity make a difference in the world by participating in Rotary's "Stop Hunger NOW" campaign helping to assemble 12,000 meal packets for disaster relief and/or the "Give Hope-Give A Hand" initiative by helping put together 200 LN4 prosthetic hands. Information and Registration for the conference is available on the District 5160 website.

Sue shared the sad news that our much-loved member, Jean Lyford, has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a rare form of cancer. Jean will be taking time off for treatment. We are encouraged to send Jean our good wishes for a full recovery, arrange for a visit to cheer her up when she is feeling up to it, and offer support in the form of meals, transportation to appointments.

Don Jenkins announced "Aging by Design," a program offered at the Lafayette Orinda Presbyterian Church on August 24, from 8:00 a.m.. to 12 noon. The program is designed to help you to develop strategies for aging -- both financially, physically and spiritually. Former Rotary International President and Moraga Rotarian, Cliff Dochterman, will be the keynote speaker. Speaking of Cliff, his lovely wife, Mary Elena, passed away on August 9. Condolences can be sent care of: Rotary Club of Moraga, P. O. Box 122, Moraga, CA 94556.
