A very BIG THANK YOU to David Pierce, Peirce McKee, along with Jose and Marcela Avelar for all their efforts in putting together the Reno Train Trip! It was a a wonderful weekend, replete with fellowship, fun, and good luck!
Gray Eliot, our long-time liaison with Meals on Wheels, let it be known that they are in dire need of new hot pack food containers that are used for delivery. He asked the Club to consider donating the funds needed to purchase new containers and President Sue agreed that we could discuss this in the Endowment Committee.
A rip-roaring Comedy Night at the Orinda Theatre was held on March 7 and featured some of the funniest local comics around. Great fun was had by all and thanks to everyone who turned out for this annual Chamber event!
The Citizen of the Year Dinner, held Friday, March 14, honored Susan Garrell of the Orinda Arts Council for her many efforts on behalf of that organization -- including initiating the Orinda (now Lamorinda) Idol program. Congratulations, Susan, on your well-deserved recognition!
Our "State of the City" luncheon will be held at the Orinda Community Center on March 26 and will feature Mayor Sue Severson. She will discuss the City's accomplishments and challenges over the past year and give us a preview of what's ahead -- including the proposed road repair bond measure. Our own Cyndi Girgis will be honored by the Orinda Chamber as Businessperson of the Year.
The 4-Way Speech Run-Off for competing high school forensics participants will be held Tuesday evening, April 8, at St. Mary's college and will be hosted by Moraga Rotary. Everyone is encouraged to come hear these talented debaters!
Our dear Jean Lyford sent a letter with her Endownment contribution to let us know that she is doing better and hopes to come back to see us soon!
Ray Bergez is recovering from a massive stroke that had him in the ICU at John Muir. Sue will keep us posted on his progress.
Frank Brunetti announced that June 12 is the date for the annual Rotary Regional Bocce Ball Tournament in Martinez. Dan Lawrence will be recruiting the teams to represent our Club. It is a day of fun for everyone!
President Sue gave special thanks to the Winter Nights volunteers: Dan Gannett, Gray Eliot, Janet Keeter, Lance Cowles, and Dick Burkhalter. The team, in return, thanked Sue for doing all the cooking!
David Pierce returned from Rotary PETS training fired up and ready to go when his term comes up in July.
