Dick Burkhalter thanked everyone who participated in Orinda in Action this past weekend.

Wint Mather thanked Bill Eames for hosting a Rotary Foundation dinner recently.

Frank Darling introduced Bob Shusta, who proposed that Orinda Rotary Club participate in an international project that Lafayette Rotary has undertaken in Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico.  The project is to replace a fire engine that the Lafayette club provided to the town, which is 27 miles northeast of Ensenada, in 2004.  Bob explained how the citizens of Valle de Guadalupe have to wait for fire engines to come from Ensenada when they have an emergency.  The fire truck that they delivered in 2004 was already “thirty something” years old, and needs to be replaced.  Bob advised the Lafayette was contributing $5,000 toward a replacement truck, that he would like Orinda to consider contributing $2,500, and showed how these funds would be matched by the District and by Rotary International to ultimately amount to $52,500 that will be used to purchase another truck for the city.  The Ensenada Rotary Club handles things in Mexico for the project.
