Rotary Club of Orinda
HISTORY
The Rotary Club of Orinda was established in 1949 with a commitment to service in our community and beyond. Over these many years we have been dedicated to the establishment and/or improvements of many Orinda institutions, facilities and programs including:

Likewise, we have been committed to serving those less fortunate than ourselves through support of:
- The Tom Fitch Fishing Day Outing for the Oakland Boys’ and Girls’ Club
- Meals on Wheels delivery for house-bound seniors
In addition, we do not overlook our commitment to being involved internationally and have funded numerous projects that support health and human services and goodwill and understanding in other countries, such as:
- Our global grant to establish the IVV Eye Clinic in Zambia
- Delivery of soccer uniforms, a fire engine, ambulance, establishment of a hospice and meals-on-wheels programs in the community of Tala, Jalisco, Mexico.
- Participation in Rotary International’s “Polio Plus” erdication effort; “Rotoplast” cleft palate surgeries for children; “Kenya Smiles” dental clinics; Burkina Faso school construction; and the LN-4 prosthetic hand program, among others.
- Haiti community street lighting project
- Transportation and equipment for the Little Flock orphanage in rural India
MEMBERSHIP
We are a non-sectarian, apolitical service organization that is part of the largest voluntary humanitarian organization in the world (Rotary International – with 1.2 million members worldwide). We welcome individuals who share our belief in “Service Above Self.” We meet each week for lunch at the Orinda Country Club from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. All of our programs include interesting speakers on a variety of timely topics.
