FOURTHOF JULY PARADE AND CELEBRATION IN THE PARK! Join us to march in Orinda's annual Fourth of July parade! We meet that morning between 9:00 and 9:30 AM in the east BART parking lot. (NOTE: Please DO NOT park your own vehicle here unless you are driving an approved vehicle in the parade.) The parade through Orinda begins at 10:00 AM. Wear your Rotary shirts and hats! This week's speaker was Tim McGrane, Executive Director of the Blackhawk Museum. A native of England (by way of Ireland), Tim came to the US in the early 80's and forged a career in the rarefied world of classic car auctions and acquisitions, with a segue into luxury yachts and aviation along the way. His work brought him into contact with some of the most prominent collectors and enthusiasts, including Ken Behring, founder of the Blackhawk museum. He has been Executive Director of the museum since February of 2013, with a mission to reintroduce area residents to what the Blackhawk Museum has to offer and to attract new generations to this gem of a collection.
In addition to housing an exquisite display of one-of-a-kind automobiles, the museum is also host to "The Spirit of the West" exhibition, which showcases rare and beautiful Native American and other artifacts that trace the history of western settlement. The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM. Admission is $15 for adult, $10 for seniors and students, free for children 6 and under.
