On August 3, our speaker was Executive Director Mike Christie from the Contra Costa County Humane Society, which is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year.
Before accepting the post as Executive Director Mike Christie has been a successful entrepreneur and business owner with more than a dozen years of experience in growing franchise operations and small businesses. Christie most recently was the Operations Director for the East Bay
Community Foundation where he managed marketing, sales and rentals for the James Irvine Foundation Conference Center. Prior to that, he managed direct sales, social media, finance and operations at Earth Sticker, LLC. In his spare time, he is a guitarist with the band Fast Times (see photo, of which he is a founding member.
 
The Humane Society's mission is “to improve the quality of life for animals, decrease euthanasia rates, and educate the public to foster compassion, responsibility, and respect for animals.” All funding is generated from private and corporate donations as well as grants. One of their goals is to find good homes for cats and dogs. The Society is based in Pleasant Hill.
